Wildlife Rescue and Conservation:
At Rakhopu Foundation, protecting wildlife is at the heart of our mission. We are committed to rescuing, rehabilitating, and conserving endangered and vulnerable species, focusing on animals affected by human activities and urbanization. Our specialized rescue centers are equipped to provide immediate medical care, rehabilitation, and safe shelter for injured or orphaned animals, particularly reptiles, birds, and mammals that find themselves stranded or injured in urban environments.
Our team of trained wildlife rescuers and volunteers works tirelessly to respond to emergency calls from local communities and authorities. In particular, we have dedicated programs for the rescue of reptiles, such as snakes and lizards, which often come into conflict with humans. By safely relocating these animals away from populated areas, we not only protect wildlife but also help reduce human-wildlife conflicts.
Bird conservation is a major focus for us, especially during the festival of Uttarayan, when countless birds are injured by kite strings. We set up temporary rescue stations during such festivals, where injured birds receive specialized treatment and are gradually rehabilitated until they’re strong enough to return to the wild.
Our work also involves raising awareness about the importance of coexisting with local wildlife. Through community workshops, we educate people about humane ways to handle wildlife encounters and the role each species plays in maintaining ecological balance. We encourage communities to protect and respect native wildlife, emphasizing the ecological benefits they bring.
To ensure that wildlife conservation extends beyond immediate rescues, we collaborate with local forest departments and environmental agencies on larger conservation projects. By participating in habitat restoration, promoting natural corridors, and conducting research on endangered species, we aim to create long-term solutions that safeguard wildlife and their habitats for generations to come.
Rakhopu Foundation is committed to a vision where humans and wildlife coexist in harmony. Every animal we save, treat, and release brings us one step closer to this ideal, and we remain dedicated to the ongoing protection and conservation of the region’s rich biodiversity.
